| The Challenge: Twenty separate job recruiting systems across Penn State led to missed opportunities
Penn State is a multi-campus public land-grant university with more than 160 undergraduate majors and 140 graduate degree programs and approximately 96,000 students across more than 20 campuses. Career services for students and alumni were offered at multiple locations, with each campus administering their own recruiting activities, including job postings and on-campus interviewing. As these career services offices turned to online job posting systems, multiple systems with multiple access points for employers and limited accessibility for students resulted. Employers seeking to recruit Penn State students and alumni were forced to contact each campus separately, while students had access only to the jobs posted at their campus.
|
The Solution: Offer an integrated online job posting system
Nittany Lion Recruiting is an integrated online system for job postings and on-campus interviewing which was implemented in fall of 2006. The career services offices at the University Park campus, 16 commonwealth campuses, and Alumni Career Services worked closely with an external vendor to design an integrated system that allowed individual offices to create and manage their own customized client interface (the screens that a student or alumnae see and use), while relying on a single integrated back-end database.
Students, employers and University administrators all benefit from the implementation of Nittany Lion Recruiting:
- Students at all campuses are able to access many more job postings.

- Students who move among different campuses need to learn only one system for the duration of their time at Penn State.
- Student records are accurate and up-to-date.
- Employers can recruit across most Penn State locations through a single system.
- Employers reach a broader base of candidates.
- Administrative users benefit from the consolidated management of employer recruiting histories, employer contacts, student histories, and more.
- Each campus can maintain individuality and connections to the students and employers they serve.
